While the flawed Auction bidding of the day was followed, this is still one of the most interesting books the game to read today, despite it having so few full deals Shepard was the probability expert of the day and this is reflected in his approach to the game. The last chapter before the laws is on Card Probabilities and it is one of the rare expositions of them before the 1960s.
