The idea of Contract Bridge had been in London in 1919 at least, as is evidenced by the number of books that had a section on this form of Auction in 1919-1921.Nonetheless, it is an important book in the history of the game's development even though it just outlines how to play Auction with the Contract principle.Surely, one of the reason that it did not take off is that the reward to risk ratios were wrong, a flaw that was corrected by Vanderbilt's well-balanced (and inflated) scoring table. Another could have been the lack of officially promulgated Laws.
