This was a workmanlike exposition of five-card major bidding for intermediate players. Its good points included quizzes at the end of each chapter and the discussion of add-ons to the basic bidding structure. An oddity is the "sound" single raise of a major suit, promising 8 to 10 points while weaker hands go via a forcing 1NT which would lead to confusion about the length of responder's support far too often.
